What I'm Doing Here

Because I enjoy adventure games, I decided to start this blog and record my fun and frustrations as I play various adventures and some RPGs. I try not to spoil the games, so you can read and play, or play and read. I'm also reviewing some games, as I used to do in the past for Four Fat Chicks. I hope I'll spark your interest in playing, or at least entertain you with my musings. Please note that my musings are only speculations. You, or the game designer, may disagree with my opinions. At the end of each entry is a link to the next entry about that game, and you'll find a list of beginning links to the right, just under my cat's photo. Feel free to comment and play along! Enjoy!

Avadon the Warborn 16: I took the Coward's Way Out (But Came Back and Won)

Right, so I finished the thing. The endgame loomed. I made it through my solo fights pretty well. I had to avoid some fights when I quicksaved in the wrong place, but fortunately I was able to do that. After you get through that phase you get the choice of two of your fighters again.

So at the end of the final mission I faced a major battle that I had lots of trouble winning, but finally did on about the fourth try, with my shadowwalker and sorceress.

After that we return to Avadon with Redbeard, where we face the choice of fighting him or not. Of course I tried the fight first, so that I would really win the game and become Keeper of Avadon, or even disband the place, but it was very clear that even with all of my allies I wasn't going to win.

So I just wanted to end the thing, reloaded and made the choice to support Redbeard. That way there are no further fights, and frankly, I had had enough of them.

The story continues and continues and continues at the end, with screen after screen telling you what happens. If I want to see what the other endgame is I can watch Chessrook's video, because I have no doubt that he chose to fight and also found a way to win.

But I haven't enjoyed this game as much as the others, so I just wanted to get it done. And it is now done.

Time to move on to other pastures!

Enjoyed it mostly, but finally just had enough. We'll see what Spiderweb comes up with next.

Update: Of course, I came back and fought Redbeard, and this time, although the fight took freakin' forever, I really had no difficulty at all winning it. I watch Cheessrook's video and he was able to win it with only four allies, and he didn't use his potions and wands enough. So I put on lots of buffs and concentrated first on taking out Redbeard's allies, then on taking out all four "Redbeards" when he divides up, and eventually isolated the right one. He brought in a few more allies but I just kept bashing him until I got him.

You get a choice to spare him or kill him in the end. I killed him, but should have spared him just to see what happens. Oh well. I won the game. Now I can get on to other things!

It was fun, but not my favorite Spiderweb series, or my favorite game from this series. We'll see what Jeff comes up with next.

Grade: a "B" I guess.
